Goals

My professional goals are driven by my dream to become a NFL sportscaster. I want to continue to learn the tricks of the trade through my work with Howard Community College and Montgomery College as well as continue to grow and make connections throughout the field. I would like to peruse an internship at a television station so I can begin to see what kind of environment I will hopefully one day be working in. For me, the most important part of my career is being able to bring the joy I feel from sports to others through my communication skills.

Future Organizations
  • One organization I think I should align myself with is International Association for Communication and Sport (IACS.) This association is focused on sports communication, but what draws me to this particular organization is this quote on their website: "Sport is far more than entertainment. It reinforces cultural norms and says a great deal about our values and aspirations. Understanding how we communicate about sport within and across cultures can help us answer bigger questions about the human condition." This speaks to me because it is exactly how I think about sports. I think many people brush sports off as entertainment  when really, sports are a very important part of our culture and as a future sportscaster, I feel it is by job to deliver the joy of sports to my audience.

  • Sports Management Worldwide is also a beneficial organization. This group is dedicated to helping people in the sports communication field succeed and find their passion. I think this would be beneficial for networking to get me connected with the people I need to meet. The more people I am able to connect with, the more job opportunities become available and the more likely I am to succeed and Sports Management Worldwide is all about the connections.
